Kia Mexico bets on solar energy in its Pesquería plant

NUEVO LEON - Kia Mexico announced the construction of a photovoltaic plant at its industrial park in Pesquería, Nuevo León, to generate electricity for the plant's own consumption.

This project, called Kia Solar Panel, seeks to reduce traditional energy consumption and contribute to the reduction of indirect greenhouse gas emissions, in line with the automaker's sustainability commitments.

The project was designed under the Isolated Supply scheme, without interconnection to the National Electric System, as detailed by Kia in the document submitted to the federal environmental authority.

Although the company did not disclose the dimensions, generation capacity or investment required, it is confident that this initiative will guarantee renewable energy at competitive costs, strengthening the operations of the plant inaugurated in 2016.

The Pesquería facility, considered one of Kia's most important in Latin America, supplies both the Mexican and export markets. On its website, Kia reaffirms its commitment to use 100% renewable energy in all its factories by 2040 and collaborates with its partners to build a sustainable supply chain.

Globally, the automaker has ambitious goals: to transform its vehicle lineup in Europe to all-electric by 2035, and to achieve full electrification in all markets by 2045. In addition, Kia innovates in sustainable materials for its cars, using recycled fishing nets, plastic bottles and wool fiber in its interiors.
