KIO to invest US$70M in Mexico City

Technology company KIO Data Centers announced a US$70 million investment to build MEX8, a new data center in Ciudad de México, aimed at strengthening digital infrastructure and meeting the growing demand for cloud and data storage services.

The project will be located in Santa Fe and will have an initial critical capacity of 4 megawatts (MW). Even before becoming operational, about 60% of its capacity has already been pre-committed, reflecting the strong demand for technological infrastructure in the country.

During construction, the new data center is expected to generate around 3,000 direct and indirect jobs, while boosting the capital’s digital ecosystem. The project is scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of 2027.

The facility will be part of an existing technology campus that will reach a total capacity of around 10 MW. The infrastructure will support services such as public cloud, streaming platforms, e-commerce, financial services, and artificial intelligence.

In addition, the data center will incorporate closed-loop cooling systems to reuse water and reduce water consumption, while a large share of the energy used by the company comes from renewable sources, as part of its sustainability strategy.
