Mayor of Piedras Negras Highlights Environmental Challenges at Climate Change Forum

During a working visit to Mexico City, Jacobo Rodríguez, mayor of Piedras Negras, took part in the forum “Challenges of the Northeast in the Face of Climate Change,” held at the Senate of the Republic and organized by Senator Luis Fernando Salazar. The event brought together representatives from public institutions and environmental agencies.
In his remarks, Rodríguez outlined the main environmental challenges facing his city, emphasizing the impact of its border location, increasing pressure on water resources, and the need to strengthen municipal capacities to address climate change.
He pointed out that many local governments lack the technical staff and financial resources required to implement environmental initiatives. While acknowledging support from organizations such as the North American Development Bank (NADBank), he urged faster access to funding and closer cross-border cooperation with neighboring Texas cities.
Rodríguez also emphasized the importance of developing local environmental policies, including recycling programs, municipal offices dedicated to climate change, and early education on environmental issues.
He concluded by stating that Piedras Negras is aiming for sustainable and orderly urban development and called for stronger support from both state and federal governments to help meet these goals.
