Mexican aviation industry prepares to face new challenges

The National Chamber of Air Transport (CANAERO) held its 60th Ordinary General Assembly, a meeting at which the aviation sector analyzed the main operational, regulatory, and infrastructure challenges facing the industry in Mexico, as well as defining strategic priorities for the coming years.

The Board of Directors was composed of Cuitlahuac Gutierrez of Aeromexico as president; Yuri Salinas of Viva as first vice president; Maria Antonieta Pacheco of Grupo Orion as second vice president; Roberto Centeno of Aerolineas Ejecutivas as third vice president; and Danilo Correa of Avianca Cargo Mexico as fourth vice president.

The organization highlighted factors affecting the economic viability of airlines; among these, fuel costs stand out, representing between 25% and 30% of the sector’s operating costs, as well as the need to review the processes that determine airport costs, including Airport Usage Fees (TUA) and other regulated charges.

CANAERO indicated that it will continue working with authorities and industry stakeholders to strengthen the country’s air connectivity, as well as the industry’s competitiveness in light of the growth in air transport and the dynamics of international trade.
