Mexico, Main Destination for Cars Made in China

Mexico became the main destination for exports of cars produced in China during the first half of the year, importing more than 138,000 units during that period, according to the latest figures from the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA).

The Chinese automotive industry exported 1.54 million light vehicles between January and March, a figure that reflects a 16% increase over the previous year. In the third month of the year alone, the volume of shipments was 570,000 units, which also represents a 16% increase.

“The main driver of this growth is the continued improvement in the competitiveness of Chinese automotive products and the sustained growth of the global market in southern countries,” said Cui Dongshu, secretary general of the CPCA, in his report.

According to CPCA data, the top three destinations for these exports in March were: Mexico, with 52,646 vehicles; Russia, with 41,741; and the United Arab Emirates with 36,490 units.

In contrast, the top three destinations in the first quarter of 2025 were: Mexico, with 138,643 vehicles; the United Arab Emirates, with 107,908; and Russia, with 99,333 units.
