Mexico will try to reach an agreement with the United States soon: Ebrard

Mexico will try to quickly reach an agreement with the United States on security, migration, and trade, said Economy Secretary Marcelo Ebrard.

"There will be several activities with the United States. The first is an instruction I have from the President of Mexico, with President Donald Trump. She already mentioned it, so that we try to reach an agreement as soon as possible," Ebrard told the press.

According to him, Mexico has already made the effort it should in terms of migration and drug trafficking. It has already made a lot of progress, judging by the available figures on fentanyl seized south of the US border.

The USMCA mandates comprehensive evaluations every six years, specific evaluations every six months on labor and environmental issues, and ongoing evaluations through a dozen committees on various topics. The six-year review must be completed by July 2026.

“Now the issue is that we have certainty between now and the review of the treaty, certainty regarding tariffs and trade issues. That is the objective, and I am waiting for confirmation of the meeting, schedule, etc., to move forward on this,” Ebrard said.
