New car sales accelerate at the beginning of the year
MEXICO - Sales of light vehicles in Mexico during January 2025 maintained growth and reached their highest volume since 2017, with 119,811 units placed in the domestic market, informed the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).
The figure reported in January is 5.9% higher compared to that recorded in the same of 2024, after the automotive industry managed to sell 6,714 units.
Nissan remains the leader in sales with a 16.9% market share, followed by General Motors with 13.1%, Volkswagen with 12.4%, Toyota with 9.2% and KIA with 7.2%.
Mazda with 6.5%, Stellantis 5.9%, Ford 3.5%, MG 3.3%, and Hyundai with 3.3%. These automakers represent the 10 brands with the highest volume.
Although Toyota, Mazda, Volkswagen and Great Wall Motors are the volume winners in sales at the start of 2025.
With these figures, the light vehicle market in January was slightly higher than the estimate of the Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA), which stood at 117,332 units.
The estimate had a percentage difference of minus 2.1% with respect to the observed figure of 119,811 units.
The automotive market continues to accelerate, although its percentage growth is in single digits compared to that of 2024.
The automotive industry estimates that sales in 2025 will exceed 1.5 million light vehicles, so it is confident that the new Chinese brands will join in order to have a complete picture of the behavior of the automotive market in general.
