Nissan, Stellantis, and Volkswagen rejoin automotive industry

Mexico began 2026 with high levels of production and exports in the automotive industry. This came alongside the launch of new models and the awarding of future projects that will shape the next manufacturing cycle.
The year brings a reconfiguration of the product portfolio: a greater focus on pickups and SUVs, the incorporation of hybrid technologies, and continued commitment to strategic segments.
In Aguascalientes, Nissan launched production of the 2026 Versa: the model remains a volume pillar within the domestic industry. Its production involves more than 4,800 employees and 104 Mexican suppliers, consolidating an industrial ecosystem that drives competitiveness and the development of local capabilities within the automotive supply chain.
In the State of Mexico, Stellantis began production of the hybrid Jeep Cherokee in Toluca, integrating hybrid technology into its operations in the country; positioning the plant within the global transition toward vehicles with lower emissions and higher technological content.
In Coahuila, the company launched production of the Ram 1500, a full-size pickup truck focused on one of the most profitable segments of the North American market: this model reinforces Mexico’s role in higher-value-added vehicles and expands the strategy toward a balance between exports and domestic consumption.
Finally, added to all this is the announcement anticipating the return of the Volkswagen Golf to the Puebla plant starting in 2027. This decision involves adapting production capabilities to more flexible platforms, in line with the sector’s technological evolution, as well as advanced technical training and the development of skills in digitalization, quality, and the management of complex processes.
