Nuevo León’s event industry expects recovery in 2021
MONTERREY – The president of the North region of the Mexican Association of Professionals in Fairs, Exhibitions, Conferences and Conventions (Amprofec), Julio Valdés, commented that during the 10 months that the event industry was closed, they stopped generating US$451,925, and in the second half of 2021 they forecast a spill of US$301,283.
“In a normal year we have reached US$702,920 in spills. In the second semester we could reach US$301,283, which represents 42.8% of the previous figure,” he highlighted.
However, he explained that this forecast depends on how many companies are going to return, in addition to that the authorities allow a capacity of 30%; that is, if it is an event for 10,000 people only 3,000 would be able to attend. For this reason, they will ask the State Secretary of Health to increase the capacity to 50%.
Since last year, the industry has invested in sanitary protocols, and now that the state government has ordered the reopening of these venues, they are going to start with events of great importance such as Expo Manufactura, which will take place in April.
The 2020 Expo Manufactura registered 13,000 attendees, 17,000 square meters of exhibition floor and 351 exhibitors representing 20 countries.
Because this event presents the latest trends in technology and innovation in machinery, the event will have a face-to-face part, and the conferences will have a hybrid format—a face-to-face part and another by videoconference.
The Mexican Petroleum Conference is also scheduled to be held at Cintermex in June, and the Transportation Suppliers Expo in August.
“In September we have the Air Conditioning Expo that takes place in September, with an area of 20,000 square meters of exhibition in Cintermex,” he said.
The businessman explained that this industry contributes not only to attracting tourism and economic spillover, but it will trigger the reactivation of various economic sectors with the generation of business, talent development, technology exchange, among others.
Amprofec Norte represents 400 companies. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 2,600 events had to be canceled or postponed last year, out of a total of 11,500 scheduled for 2020.
