Nuevo Leon’s exports grow by 21.7%

NUEVO LEON - Exports in Nuevo Leon increased by 21.7% and reached US$53 billion during the last 12 months, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics, Geography and Informatics (INEGI).

At quarterly figures, exports of local companies increased by 16.8% to reach US$13.1 billion from January to March 2023, contrasting with what was registered in the same period but last year, when the entity reflected shipments for US$11.2 billion.

"This is a record figure that reflects the strength of our economy, the leadership of our companies and the confidence of investors," said Iván Rivas, Nuevo León's Secretary of Economy.

Among the sectors that stand out for their growth are automotive with 33.8%, followed by the manufacture of computer equipment and electronic accessories with 40.4%.

On a national level, Nuevo Leon generated 10% of manufacturing exports, according to the INEGI report.

INEGI highlights that in the first quarter of 2023, the states with the highest contribution to the total value of exports were: Chihuahua (13.3%), Coahuila de Zaragoza (12.8%), Nuevo Leon (10.4%), Baja California (9.7%) and Guanajuato (6.2%). Together, these states accounted for 52.4 percent.

In their annual comparison, the five entities with the highest increases in the value of their exports were: Hidalgo, with 67.7%; Mexico City, 36.6%; San Luis Potosi, 32.7%; Sinaloa, 22.1% and Queretaro, with 21.8%.

During the January-March 2023 quarter, the subsector Manufacture of transportation equipment stood out for its participation in the total value of exports (38.7%). The states with the highest contribution in this activity were: Coahuila de Zaragoza (22.2%), Guanajuato (11%), Nuevo León (10.3%), Chihuahua (8.3%) and Puebla (7.7%). These states accounted for 59.6% of the value of these exports.

The states with the highest exports of electronic equipment were: Chihuahua (40.7%), Baja California (19%), Jalisco (17.4%), Tamaulipas (8.5%) and Nuevo León (5.9%). Together, they totaled 91.4 percent.

In the first quarter of 2023, the entities that contributed the most to exports of electrical equipment were: Nuevo León (29.7%), Coahuila de Zaragoza (12.9%), Chihuahua (12.3%), Tamaulipas (11.4%) and Baja California (9%), which together accounted for 75.1% of total exports in this subsector.
