Sedener explores areas for new wind farms in Reynosa

The Undersecretary of Electricity and Renewable Energy of the Secretariat of Energy Development (Sedener), Roberto Manuel Rendón, toured Reynosa together with staff from the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) to evaluate areas with potential for the development of new wind farms.
The visit included strategic points in northern Tamaulipas, where wind measurements and feasibility analyses were carried out for future projects. According to information from Sedener, the review seeks to identify areas that have the necessary conditions for the installation of renewable generation infrastructure.
As part of the agenda, Rendón held a meeting with CFE authorities at the Reynosa Airport substation. During the meeting, current technical and electrical capacities were reviewed, as well as connection and expansion options to address possible increases in energy generation.
The activity is part of the 2025-2030 Strengthening Plan, which contemplates the expansion of clean energy projects. According to official data, the state of Tamaulipas is one of the entities with the highest installed wind energy capacity in Mexico, with parks that provide electricity for both industry and the national electricity system.
The northern part of the state, particularly Reynosa and surrounding municipalities, has wind conditions that have favored the establishment of several farms in recent years. The analysis of new areas seeks to consolidate this trend and respond to growing energy demand, with a focus on diversifying sources and reducing polluting emissions.
State authorities have indicated that the review of sites in Reynosa is part of a broader strategy to harness the state's energy potential, strengthen the transmission network, and encourage investments linked to the energy transition.
With this type of assessment, Tamaulipas seeks to expand its portfolio of renewable projects and strengthen its position as one of the leading producers of wind energy in the country.
