SMADS and INDEX Mexicali Aim to Strengthen Environmental Cooperation

The Baja California Secretariat of Environment and Sustainable Development (SMADS) and the maquiladora association INDEX Mexicali recently met to explore a joint environmental agenda focused on sustainability and regulatory compliance.
The meeting was led by SMADS Secretary Mónica Vega Aguirre and INDEX Mexicali President Salvador Maese. Both representatives discussed proposals to promote sustainable development, the responsible use of natural resources, and alignment with existing environmental regulations.
They emphasized the importance of strengthening collaboration between public institutions and the private sector to address the region’s environmental challenges. Strategies to help local industries adopt more sustainable practices were among the key topics covered.
SMADS reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining open dialogue with the industrial sector and supporting initiatives that contribute to environmental preservation. The agency also extended an invitation to other productive sectors to join future collaborative efforts.
