Stellantis presents the new Jeep Cherokee produced in Toluca

Multinational automotive company Stellantis officially unveiled the sixth generation of the Jeep Cherokee, which will be produced in Toluca, State of Mexico, starting in the third quarter.

The iconic midsize SUV will hit the U.S. market with a single powertrain option, a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid, with an estimated fuel efficiency of 37 miles per gallon (about 15.7 kilometers per liter), which translates to a range of 500 miles (804.6 kilometers) on a full tank.

The 2026 Jeep Cherokee features an exterior that evokes 50 years of inspiration, but with a distinctly modern aesthetic. It is longer, taller, and wider than the previous version, with sharp edges that evoke the models of yesteryear.

The front fascia includes the iconic seven-slot grille, as well as square and rectangular LED headlights with daytime running light details that create a distinctive U-shape. The overall profile is simple and boxy, hallmarks of a Jeep.

True to its off-road heritage, the vehicle boasts class-leading approach and departure angles of 19.6 and 29.4 degrees, respectively, while the breakover angle is 18.8 degrees and it has a ground clearance of 20 centimeters.

“From every angle, the 2026 Jeep Cherokee evokes the best of the brand's rich design history,” said Vince Galante, vice president of global design for Jeep.

“The 2026 Jeep Cherokee redefines what a modern midsize SUV can and should be: a stunning turbocharged vehicle with over 800 kilometers of range, unmatched safety, and the ability to tackle any adventure,” said Bob Broderdorf, executive director of the Jeep brand, during the presentation in Brooklyn, New York.

The executive assured that this new proposal is designed to “compete, inspire, and reclaim our place in North America's largest vehicle segment.”

The powertrain, consisting of an internal combustion engine, two electric motors, and a battery, generates 210 horsepower and 230 lb-ft of torque. Production will take place at the Stellantis engine plant in Dundee, Michigan.

Micky Bly, Stellantis senior vice president and global head of powertrains, said the new engine is the result of “millions of miles of development and testing” and “represents a major step forward in delivering performance and efficiency for our customers.”

“We have perfected this new hybrid powertrain to deliver all the performance you need for your everyday adventures,” added the executive.

The Jeep Cherokee will initially be available in four trim levels: Cherokee, Laredo, Limited, and Overland, all of which come standard with a 10.25-inch digital cluster and a 12.3-inch infotainment console with Uconnect 5 system compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

All options are equipped with the Jeep Active Drive I 4×4 system as standard with rear axle disconnect as a standard option.

The Select-Terrain traction management system has four driving modes: Auto, Sport, Snow, and Sand/Mud.

Also as part of the standard equipment, all variants include rain-sensing windshield wipers, automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, drowsy driver detection, and Level 2 active driver assistance with adaptive cruise control.

Optional equipment will include dual sunroofs, light-colored upholstery (Arctic interior package), foot-activated power trunk, 360-degree camera, digital rearview mirror, heated rear seats and air-conditioned front seats, premium audio system, and Alexa assistant, among others.

The most affordable option for the 2026 Jeep Cherokee will have a starting price of $37,000 in the U.S. market, while the Laredo trim level starts at $40,000. All options are subject to an additional $2,000 charge for freight and delivery.

The remaining two trim levels, Limited and Overland, will have starting prices of $42,500 and $46,000, respectively.

The new SUV will arrive at dealerships in the neighboring country at the end of the year, starting with the higher-priced Limited and Overland variants, while the two options will be available in early 2026.
