Tijuana and Mexicali consolidate Mexico’s most dynamic aerospace corridor

The aerospace sector in Mexico is experiencing a period of sustained expansion that has positioned it as one of the leading centers of advanced manufacturing in Latin America.

Although the country does not yet produce complete commercial aircraft, it has established itself as an indispensable link in the global supply chain, manufacturing and exporting high-precision components for some of the world's largest aircraft manufacturers.

In this scenario, the Tijuana-Mexicali corridor in Baja California has emerged as the nerve center of this industry.

With more than 100 companies located there, steadily growing foreign capital, and a strategic location that connects it directly to the United States, the corridor is considered the most important aerospace ecosystem in Mexico and one of the most dynamic in all of North America.

Baja California accounts for 25% of the aerospace companies operating in Mexico, a figure that reflects the state's importance as a magnet for foreign investment.

In particular, the Tijuana-Mexicali corridor is home to more than 100 companies covering the entire value chain: from the manufacture of metal and composite parts to the production of electrical harnesses, landing gear, turbine components, fuselage structures, seats, and electronic systems.

Among the international companies with a presence in the region are giants such as Collins Aerospace, Gulfstream, GKN Aerospace, Honeywell, and Safran, all of which have key operations in the northern part of the state.

These companies not only manufacture parts, but also carry out engineering design, research, and testing activities, raising the level of technological sophistication in the region.

This ecosystem has been made possible by a collaborative model involving private initiative, state and federal government, as well as universities and research centers.

The result is a robust aerospace cluster capable of competing globally and adapting to the demands of the world's most demanding supply chains.
