Tijuana-Beijing route reactivated

TIJUANA, BC - The Ministry of Tourism of Baja California, in coordination with the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of Mexico and Hainan Airlines, announced the resumption of the Tijuana-Beijing air route.

The route was cancelled in January 2020 due to the pandemic, and after its reactivation, it promises to strengthen diplomatic, economic and cultural ties between Mexico and the People's Republic of China.

The flight will have two weekly frequencies, leaving Beijing on Mondays and Fridays at 20:35 and arriving in Tijuana at 17:55. Passengers will have a two-hour layover before departing for Mexico City at 19:55, arriving at 23:59 (local time). In the reverse direction, the flight will take off from Benito Juarez airport on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 02:00, landing in Tijuana at 04:15 and continuing its journey to China at 06:15 to arrive in Beijing at 09:55 the following day.

“The resumption of the air route by Hainan Airlines marks a historic achievement for Baja California. Its direct connection will position Tijuana as a strategic point for international tourism, so we are working on partnerships with agencies and operators to leverage this opportunity. We expect this route to contribute significantly to regional economic growth and attract more visitors to discover the wonders that Baja California has to offer,” said Miguel Aguíñiga Rodríguez, Baja California Secretary of Tourism.

The official announcement of this resumption was made during Operation Knock on Doors in China, where the Secretary of Tourism of the Government of Mexico, Miguel Torruco Marqués; the Ambassador of Mexico in China, Jesús Seade Kuri; the Secretary of Tourism of Baja California, Miguel Aguíñiga Rodríguez; and the directors of Hainan Airlines headed by its president, Zhu Tao, were present.

The collaboration between these authorities underscores the relevance of this air connection and its positive impact on strengthening tourism and commercial ties between Mexico and China.

In this regard, Raul Revuelta Musalem, CEO of Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacifico (GAP), said that the Tijuana - Beijing route is of great importance for the city and the Southern California region, as it will become the closest point of entry to the United States from Asia.

“To date, Tijuana Airport is one of the best connected air terminals domestically with 35 domestic routes; and we continue working to strengthen international connectivity, the airport currently connects to Phoenix (PHX), Beijing (PEK) and in October begins its third international route to Las Vegas (LAS),” said Revuelta.
