Tijuana International Airport moves forward with its expansion

Tijuana International Airport is making significant progress on its expansion project, part of the new five-year investment plan by Grupo Aeroportuario del Pacífico (GAP), which seeks to strengthen its operational capacity and offer a more efficient service to the millions of travelers who pass through the terminal each year.
During the third quarter of 2025, key works were completed on the airfield, including the expansion of the commercial aviation platform, which will now have more than 41,000 square meters distributed in two areas (east and west of the current area), with additional positions for commercial aircraft.
The construction of a new taxiway was also completed, which began operations in July, improving the mobility and efficiency of air operations. In the coming months, the expansion of the terminal building will begin, which will include seven new boarding gates, a 50% increase in baggage claim carousels, and 46 additional check-in counters.
These works are expected to be completed in 2029, increasing the total surface area of the building by 47% and allowing it to meet greater passenger demand.
They also announced that 10 self-check-in kiosks will be installed in November of this year, which will help provide a much more modern, faster, and more flexible experience for passengers.
“These works represent a fundamental step toward consolidating Tijuana Airport as a modern, safe, and efficient airport with quality infrastructure that improves the travel experience and strengthens the region's connectivity, contributing to the economic and tourism development of Baja California and the country,” said Carlos Salgado de la Peña, airport director.
In the last five years, Tijuana International Airport has experienced 40% growth in passenger traffic, from 8.9 million in 2019 to 12.5 million in 2024. Between January and September 2025 alone, more than 9.5 million users have been served, with a monthly average of one million passengers.
This growth has consolidated the airport as one of the most important in the country due to its connectivity and strategic role on the northern border.
