Tonalli inaugurates its first solar panel plant in Puebla

The Mexican company Tonalli has launched its first solar panel plant in the municipality of Cuautlancingo, Puebla, with an investment of US$17.2 million. The new facility, located 40 minutes from the Angelópolis metropolitan area, will have the capacity to produce up to 200,000 solar panels per year.

The industrial complex will generate around 200 direct jobs and more than 1,000 indirect jobs, mainly in the areas of manufacturing, installation, and maintenance of solar systems. The plant is part of a joint strategy with the state government to strengthen the renewable energy sector in the state.

The facility has the “Made in Mexico” label, which certifies that the components produced are manufactured domestically and meet quality standards.

In addition to the impact on job creation, Tonalli seeks to develop a local industrial ecosystem by creating a network of suppliers and distributors, with the aim of consolidating a regional value chain.

In a second phase of the project, the company will move its operations to San José Chiapa, within the Capital City of Technology and Sustainability complex. At this site, the incorporation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) into the production processes is being considered, as well as specialized technical training programs.

During the inauguration ceremony, state authorities highlighted the plant's potential to supply sectors with high energy demand, such as the automotive industry. In this regard, Bernardo Álvarez Ibarra, the entrepreneur leading the project, emphasized that the facility will enable the company to respond to the growth of the domestic market for solar solutions, while strengthening the state's industrial base.

According to industry experts, automotive manufacturers are among the main consumers of solar panels, due to their sustainability projects that include the use of clean energy for their operations.
