UNAM Motorsports develops a formula-style electric vehicle

The UNAM Motorsports university team unveiled a new all-electric single-seater vehicle, developed to compete in the international Formula SAE program, at an event held at the MG Motor Mexico Training Center in Mexico City.
The presentation took place as part of the collaboration between the automaker and the student team affiliated with the National Autonomous University of Mexico, a partnership that aims to promote applied engineering projects and the development of specialized talent in the automotive sector.
The car weighs approximately 705 pounds and can reach a top speed of 68 miles per hour; it is equipped with an EMRAX electric motor and a lithium-ion battery system.
“This collaboration with MG has been a catalyst for the team to put theory into practice in a highly demanding environment, allowing our students’ talent to shine in competitive arenas at the national and international levels,” said Mariano Garcia, the team’s academic advisor.
Since 2022, when MG Motor joined the project as a partner, both parties have worked on initiatives related to technical training, technological development, and participation in international competitions.
The team consists of more than 50 students from various UNAM programs, who collaborate on the design, manufacturing, and testing of formula-style vehicles.
Throughout their history, they have participated in competitions organized by SAE in countries such as Austria, Brazil, the United States, and Italy.
