USAT to Invest US$143 million in Yucatán Plant

Yucatán is set to strengthen its position in high-tech manufacturing with a major new investment in the semiconductor sector. Ultimate Solar Advanced Technology (USAT) announced plans to build a new production facility in the municipality of Kanasín, backed by an investment of approximately US$143 million.
The project will be developed in two phases and is expected to generate around 1,000 high-skilled jobs, primarily in engineering, automation, and clean technologies. These positions are anticipated to offer competitive wages and support regional economic growth.
The plant will focus on manufacturing semiconductor components for the solar energy industry, aligning with rising global demand for renewable technologies. Once operational, the facility is projected to produce up to 1 gigawatt of solar cells annually, supplying energy capacity for more than 1.5 million households.
The first phase will include a significant portion of the total investment, aimed at construction and early-stage development. Backed by international capital, the project reflects growing confidence in Yucatán as a destination for advanced manufacturing.
Authorities highlighted that the investment will not only create direct employment but also boost related sectors such as logistics, maintenance, and specialized services, further positioning the state as an emerging hub for innovation in Mexico.
