Volkswagen de México starts production of the new Taos in Puebla
PUEBLA - Volkswagen de México began production of the new Taos at its Puebla plant, marking the second manufacturing start-up in three months, following the launch of the new Jetta in July. The first units of the Taos will be destined for the Mexican market and North America.
Volkswagen de Mexico President and CEO Holger Nestler, along with Thomas Jakobler, Vice President of Production and Logistics, and a team of Segment 3 workers, led the production start-up ceremony.
“With robust production of Volkswagen Tiguan and Volkswagen Taos, we at Volkswagen de México are strengthening our position as a relevant player within Volkswagen's strategy for the SUV segment. 1.6 million units of these two models made by Mexican hands reinforce our commitment to continue delivering products of excellence to our customers,” said Holger Nestler.
This launch represents the second production cycle of the Taos, a model that first entered the Puebla assembly lines in October 2020. In recent years, it has established itself as one of the brand's most prominent vehicles in Mexico.
“As of September, it has positioned itself as the second best-selling midsize SUV in our country. This is undoubtedly thanks to its features; it is a fun-to-drive, efficient, well-equipped and stylish car,” said Carlos Henry, director of the Volkswagen brand in the country.
He also pointed out that the model's update will ensure its continuity in outstanding sales.
Volkswagen de México also reached an important milestone in May 2024 by registering 14 million vehicles produced in its 60-year history in Mexico.
According to data from Inegi's Administrative Registry of the Light Vehicle Automotive Industry, Taos reported production of 83,904 units from January to September 2024. Of this total, 79% was shipped to export markets in the United States and Canada.
