Volkswagen honors its Best Apprentice

The Volkswagen Group has chosen Eduardo Tecuapetla Fernández, a mechatronics apprentice at the Volkswagen Group Academy Mexico (VWGAM), as the recipient of the “Best Apprentice 2025” award.

Eduardo was selected because, in addition to his high academic performance, he showed “exemplary commitment and technical skills both in the classroom and in practice,” said executives from the German automaker during the award ceremony, where the student was accompanied by his family.

In addition to the recognition, the student will travel to Wolfsburg, Germany, where he will meet other award-winning apprentices from different Volkswagen Group plants at an international event celebrating “technical excellence and the global vision of the new generations.”

The “Best Apprentice” is the highest honor awarded by the Volkswagen Group to its most outstanding apprentices and reflects the impact of Volkswagen de México's dual training model on talent development for the automotive industry, according to its executives.

“This achievement reflects the impact of a training strategy aligned with operational excellence. Our vision is to offer real paths for professional and social development, and Eduardo represents that promise fulfilled: young talent with a future inside and outside the assembly plant,” said Ricardo Guerrero Ayala, Executive Vice President of Human Resources and Organization at Volkswagen de México.

Volkswagen de México is a pioneer in the implementation of the German dual training model and, since 1966, has been developing technical talent through this process focused on theoretical and practical learning within the production environment.

This program allows young apprentices to train to the highest technical standards.

“Eduardo reflects the values we promote at VWGAM: technical excellence, responsibility, and global vision. His career represents the transformative potential of technical education as a driver of social mobility,” said Emma María Yunes Viveros, Director of the Volkswagen Group Academy Mexico.

The award was recently presented to Eduardo Tecuapetla at a ceremony led by executives from the automaker, with his family in attendance.
