Volvo’s plant expected to begin operations in 2026

Volvo could begin operations in the summer of 2026 at its new plant in Nuevo Leon, according to the investment announcement made in April 2025.

During his visit to the corporate headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden, Nuevo Leon Governor Samuel Garcia noted that construction of the plant in the municipality of Cienega de Flores is proceeding as planned, which would allow the first trucks to roll off the assembly line in the summer of 2026.

In its initial phase, the project involved an investment of US$750 million, with a growth projection that could raise the total amount to US$1 billion.

It is also estimated that up to 2,000 direct jobs will be created by 2030, with the possibility of exceeding that figure as the plant’s expansion progresses and its operations reach a larger scale.

Since the announcement of this project, more than 20 suppliers linked to Volvo have expressed interest in setting up or expanding operations in the state, reinforcing the integration of an industrial ecosystem centered on heavy-duty vehicle manufacturing.

This investment aligns with the trend of consolidating northern Mexico as a key hub for the automotive and transportation industry, with projects that not only increase production capacity but also incorporate technology transfer and strengthen long-term regional competitiveness.
