Women lead the aerospace industry in Baja California

The aerospace industry in Baja California exported US$3.8 billion in 2024, making it one of the fastest-growing sectors.
According to the president of the Baja California Aerospace Cluster, Tomás Sibaja, in a sector that has historically been dominated by men, such as the aerospace industry, more than half of the state's aerospace industry workforce is now female.
“In the aerospace industry, both the technical and engineering aspects are key, and in both areas of expertise, in the last census we conducted in 2024, we found that at the production base in Baja California, more than 50 percent of the personnel working in the industry are women,” he emphasized.
He added that this is surprising since many people would believe that, as these are engineering fields, men would predominate.
The aerospace industry in the state is one of the most important, given that in 2024 the value of exports from the sector in the state was US$3.8 billion.
In addition, he noted that the state has more than 120 world-class certified companies that generate more than 40,000 jobs.
While other industrial sectors have seen their production decline due to various factors such as international policies and global conflicts, among others, the aerospace sector is atypical, linked to global mobility, and in that sense, has not stopped growing.
“Unlike other sectors that have seen a slowdown in production, our companies have not stopped growing. The space sector in Baja California has shown the best growth and expansion results in all of Mexico,” he emphasized.
In 2024, the aerospace industry in Baja California grew by 21 percent, and they expect the percentage to be the same in 2025.
