XPeng enters Mexico EV market

Chinese electric vehicle maker XPeng is set to enter the Mexican market as part of a broader strategy to expand its footprint across Latin America, marking a key step in its global growth ambitions.

The company will officially introduce its electric vehicles in Mexico on March 25, where it plans to showcase models such as the G6 and G9—two SUVs designed to compete in the rapidly growing EV segment. The launch positions Mexico as a strategic hub for reaching other markets in the region.

XPeng’s expansion comes amid intensifying competition and slowing demand in China, prompting several domestic automakers to accelerate their international push. The company aims to double its overseas sales in 2026, with global markets expected to account for around 20% of its total revenue.

Chief executive He Xiaopeng has emphasized the importance of Latin America in the company’s long-term roadmap, highlighting Mexico as a key entry point. XPeng has also set an ambitious target for overseas operations to contribute up to 70% of total profits by 2030.

The move follows the company’s first-ever quarterly profit, placing it among a new generation of Chinese EV manufacturers reaching financial break-even and strengthening their ability to expand abroad.

With its Mexico debut, XPeng joins a growing wave of Chinese automakers looking to capture emerging demand for electric mobility in Latin America, where governments and consumers are increasingly embracing cleaner transportation alternatives.
