Yucatan seeks to consolidate as an energy hub
YUCATAN - The governor of Yucatán, Joaquín Díaz Mena, presented the Energy Welfare Law initiative and the creation of the Yucatán Energy Agency, which will work hand in hand with the state and federal governments to attract energy investments and take advantage of the opportunities that Mexico is generating in this sector.
In presenting a new reform package, the president said that the energy transition is crucial for the future, and Yucatan cannot be left behind.
For this reason, he said, the law initiative to be presented to the state Congress will lay the foundations for the development of renewable energy projects, such as solar, wind and hydraulic parks, and will promote the efficient use of natural gas through the new Energy Agency, which will be headed by Pablo Gamboa Miner.
Díaz Mena emphasized that Yucatán has five clean energy parks and has enormous potential to become an energy and welfare pole. In this sense, he announced a private investment of 140 million dollars for the Tizimín 2 Wind Farm.
Likewise, the Governor proposed to Congress a reform to the Yucatan Public Administration Code (CAPY) to restructure government agencies, which will allow further progress towards a profound transformation.
Within this framework, the creation of the Ministry of Welfare is foreseen, which will directly serve those who need it most.
“It is not just a matter of changing the name of an agency, but of changing its purpose and focus,” he assured.
According to local information, the new agency will guarantee that every Yucatecan, regardless of their place of residence or social condition, will have access to programs and services that allow them to live with dignity.
