California created more than 96,000 jobs in October

CALIFORNIA - During the month of October, California created 96,000 new jobs, which keeps the state on track to recover the jobs lost between March and April 2020 due to the pandemic.

According to figures presented by California Governor Gavin Newsom, employment growth during October has allowed the state to recover 1,828,500 jobs, representing 67.4% of the jobs lost during the most critical stage of the Covid-19 contingency last year.

The gain of 96,800 nonfarm jobs represented approximately 18.2 percent of the overall gain of 531,000 new jobs nationally in October 2021.

"California has once again created more jobs than any other state - averaging six-figure job growth for nine consecutive months - an unprecedented achievement as our economy continues to recover from the pandemic. But there is still work to be done, and we are focused on supporting those most affected by the pandemic and getting people back to work," Newsom said.

From February through October 2021, California has averaged more than 100,000 payroll jobs gained each month, helping lead the U.S. in job growth this year.

Ten of California's eleven industry sectors gained jobs in the tenth month of the year, with Professional and Business Services with 39,500 jobs generated.
