Mexican aerospace industry can be an important player at the international level

MEXICO - Mexico is a key player in the global aerospace industry, due to a unique combination of strategic factors, resources and the fascination of young people interested in these areas, according to a specialist who gave a conference at UNAM.

The Spanish astronaut of the European Space Agency (ESA) Pablo Álvarez Fernández visited the Institute of Nuclear Sciences (ICN) of the UNAM, to inspire Mexican students to pursue science and aerospace careers. We tell you more about this meeting.

During the visit it was commented that in the space field, several Spanish-speaking countries are emerging as powers, however it is necessary to increase the dissemination of science and activities related to space exploration.

“To achieve a mission requires the participation of many countries and economic resources, no nation can achieve such a feat by itself, as the space environment is hostile and complex,” stated Pablo Alvarez.

Researchers and students of ICN are creators and participants of the COLMENA mission, which leads autonomous microbots to the moon to explore space mining; to which the astronaut expressed his surprise for the technological, engineering, basic and applied sciences development that the university and its young people have.

The expert pointed out that they need a wide range of knowledge in different disciplines. In addition to other characteristics such as physical and mental health, discipline and openness to continue learning.
