Audi starts production of the new generation Q5 in Puebla
PUEBLA - Audi presents the third generation of its globally successful SUV, the new Audi Q5. Like its predecessor, this new series will roll off the assembly line at the plant in San José Chiapa, Puebla, which has been preparing intensively to produce this model based on the Premium Combustion Platform (PPC).
The San José Chiapa plant, inaugurated in 2016, is one of Audi's most modern. It is highly flexible and perfectly adaptable for the production of new vehicles.
For the new Q5, the company has managed to change its systems during ongoing operations with minimal disruption, enabling a highly economical and efficient operation on a relatively small footprint.
“With the Audi Q5, we are starting the renewal of our SUV portfolio with internal combustion engines and partially electrified variants. Thanks to the production of the previous generation, Audi Mexico has many years of experience with one of our most successful SUV models,” said Gernot Döllner, CEO of Audi.
“We in San José Chiapa, in the state of Puebla, have one of the most modern Audi plants in the world, perfectly adapted for the production of the new generation of the Q5," said Gerd Walker, Audi Board Member for Production and Logistics.
Dr. Tarek Mashhour, CEO of Audi Mexico, also highlighted the role of the employees, since Audi Mexico is a company with an extremely talented team, and without them this day would not have been possible.
"In order to start the production of a vehicle like the Audi Q5, it is necessary to consider many aspects, from planning, product analysis, quality, among other issues that require a passionate team to make everything work,” Mashhour emphasized.
Every day, more than 5,000 employees at Audi Mexico contribute to the optimal operation of the plant, ensuring that the Audi Q5 is produced with passion and perfection. The Audi Q5, with the collaboration of its employees, ensures that this SUV leaves the San José Chiapa plant with the 'Made by Audi' seal.
