Nemak acquires Swiss company GF Casting Solutions

Mexican manufacturer Nemak has reached an agreement to acquire the automotive business of GF Casting Solutions, which specializes in producing lightweight components through metal casting.
The transaction—still subject to regulatory approvals—is valued at US$336 million, of which an initial disbursement of US$160 million will be financed through long-term credit lines, revealed the company based in García, Nuevo León.
GF Castings Solutions, a subsidiary of Swiss industrial giant Georg Fischer (GF), generated revenues of around US$707 million in 2024, with an adjusted EBITDA of US$91 million.
The operation involves a research and development center in the city of Schaffhausen, Switzerland, as well as nine plants located in Austria, China, Romania, Germany, and the United States, with a workforce of nearly 2,500 people.
The company has a portfolio of highly complex aluminum and magnesium components, of which about 80% are focused on electromobility, structure, and chassis applications, while the remaining 20% belong to other types of parts.
With the purchase, Nemak acquires a robust customer base that includes Western automakers such as Audi, BMW, Jaguar-Land Rover, Mercedes Benz, Porsche, Stellantis, Volkswagen, and Volvo, but also Chinese manufacturers such as BYD, Denza, Geely, Hongqi, Li Auto, Nio, Xpeng, and Zeekr.
The automotive supplier said that this strategic acquisition will represent a milestone in its efforts to accelerate its transformation “beyond the internal combustion powertrain, expanding its global presence.”
The company added that this operation will allow it to diversify its customer base, strengthen its technological capabilities, and “reinforce its position in the transition toward sustainable mobility.”

“GF Casting Solutions' automotive business will bring advanced expertise in the design and manufacture of highly complex structural components made of aluminum and magnesium, key materials for lightweight vehicle design,” said Álvaro Fernández, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nemak, during the announcement.
The executive explained that the new acquisition will add significant capacity and technology in high-pressure die casting (HPDC), as well as a greater commercial presence, especially among premium automakers in Europe and China.
"For more than four decades, Nemak has been at the forefront of lightweighting solutions, supporting the world's leading automotive manufacturers in their pursuit of innovation and sustainability. The integration of GF Casting Solutions' automotive business will mark a new chapter in our journey—one that expands our global reach and long-term perspective," he reiterated.
For his part, Nemak CEO Armando Tamez said the purchase will expand the offering of high-growth components not related to internal combustion engines (ICE), particularly in structural, chassis, and electric vehicle applications.
Tamez pointed out that CF Casting Solutions' “solid reputation for excellence and reliability” aligns with Nemak's values and long-term vision, reinforcing its “commitment to innovation and generating value for our customers.”
