Toyota Mexico Electrifies the Yaris Sedan

Toyota Mexico introduced the 2026 model of the Yaris Sedan, which comes with a new hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) engine version that seeks to consolidate its position as one of the market's favorites.

The subcompact is the twelfth vehicle in the brand's portfolio with this technology in the country, and it arrives at dealerships just as Toyota celebrates the sale of more than 200,000 HEV units in Mexico.

The Japanese automaker's entry-level vehicle has become a benchmark for value, with more than 164,000 units sold since its introduction in the country in 2006.

“With the arrival of the 2026 Yaris Sedan HEV, we are celebrating the addition of our twelfth hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) in Mexico, another step in the expansion of our electrification portfolio that allows us to offer sustainable mobility options for different lifestyles,” said Guillermo Diaz, president of Toyota Motor Sales and Lexus de Mexico.

Among the changes to the exterior design is a new front grille that gives it a more sophisticated presence, while LED headlights with daytime running lights and stylishly designed taillights reinforce its character.

The Base MT, CVT, S MT, and S CVT versions feature 15-inch aluminum wheels, while the S versions incorporate 16-inch wheels, highlighting the two-tone design of the new S HEV version that adds a touch of sportiness.

The 2026 Yaris Sedan is available with two types of engines. The gasoline versions feature a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with 105 horsepower and 102 lb-ft of torque, coupled with a 5-speed manual or CVT transmission.

On the other hand, the new hybrid electric (HEV) version combines a 1.5-liter engine with an electric motor and a self-regenerating lithium-ion battery, offering 110 combined horsepower and a fuel efficiency of up to 27 kilometers per liter.

"The arrival of the Yaris Sedan HEV represents an important step in our electrification strategy in Mexico. This model not only expands our hybrid electric offering, but also brings more people closer to entering the hybrid world, reinforcing Toyota's commitment to offering accessible, efficient, and responsible mobility alternatives," said Gerardo Romero, vice president of operations for Toyota Motor Sales de México.

Inside, the vehicle offers more space, combining high-quality materials with a design tailored for everyday life.

Its connectivity integrates wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with an 8-inch touchscreen available on all versions.

The audio system has four speakers on all versions, except for the S HI CVT version, which elevates the experience by incorporating six speakers for a more immersive sound.

The S MT and S CVT versions feature a 4.2-inch multi-information display (MID), while the S HI CVT and S HEV offer a 7-inch MID. They also feature a wireless charger for smartphones.

The Base MT, Base CVT, S MT, S CVT, and S HEV versions feature fabric upholstery, while the S HI CVT features synthetic leather upholstery, as does the steering wheel. All versions feature steering wheel controls.

In terms of safety, it features Toyota's Star Safety System, which includes: Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Traction Control (TRAC), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) + (EPS).

In addition, the S HI CVT and S HEV versions feature the advanced Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) system, with advanced driver assistance technologies such as: Pre-Collision System (PCS), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Tracing Assist (LTA), Automatic High Beam (AHB), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), and Smart Stop Technology (SST).

It also has six airbags (two front, two side, and two curtain) and an ISOFIX/LATCH child seat anchorage system, ensuring maximum protection for all occupants.
