Hybrids and electric vehicles account for 9% of car sales in Querétaro

From January to October, 2,675 hybrid and electric vehicles were sold in Querétaro, representing 9% of new vehicles sold in the state, according to Laura Rodríguez Miranda, president of the Mexican Association of Automotive Distributors (AMDA) in Querétaro.

At the end of October, she added, Querétaro was the tenth state with the highest sales of hybrid and electric vehicles, with Mexico City, the State of Mexico, Nuevo León, Jalisco, Guanajuato, Puebla, Veracruz, Yucatán, and Chihuahua occupying the top nine positions.

In the first 10 months of the year, this segment grew by 4.5% compared to last year, the association pointed out.

“We are in the top ten for hybrids and electric vehicles in Querétaro, representing 8.9% of total sales of new vehicles. (...) We are doing very well, and the important thing is that the development of new technologies such as hybrids and electric vehicles has been very good for us in Querétaro because we have the infrastructure that allows us to have these vehicles here,” said the president.

The businesswoman added that the private sector and the state government are working together on a strategy to install charging stations to support this type of automotive technology.

In the first nine months of the year, 29,742 vehicles were sold in the state, representing a 0.5% decrease compared to the previous year.

The state president of AMDA said that Querétaro ranked tenth among the 32 states.

Of the cumulative sales for the year, 17,072 (57.4%) were multi-purpose vehicles and trucks, along with 12,670 (42.6%) cars.

In October alone, vehicle purchases fell 0.1%, with 3,086 units sold.
