300,000 Vehicles Now Connected to OnStar in Mexico

OnStar, General Motors’ technology platform for safety, assistance, and connectivity, now has 300,000 connected vehicles in Mexico, positioning it as the automotive industry’s largest connected mobility ecosystem in the country.

For the U.S. automaker, this achievement underscores the brand’s evolution in responding to new user expectations and transforming the in-vehicle experience through constant innovation.

Since its arrival in Mexico, OnStar has championed a vision of safer, more connected, and personalized mobility, offering solutions ranging from emergency assistance and vehicle tracking to remote diagnostics, navigation, and advanced connectivity by providing in-vehicle internet and the latest infotainment systems.

Reaching 300,000 connected vehicles represents not only sustained growth for the platform but also a clear sign of the growing adoption of smart technologies by Mexican drivers.

“At OnStar, we understand that today a vehicle is much more than just a means of transportation; it’s a space where people work, communicate, stay informed, and entertain themselves; so, throughout these years of evolution, we have taken it upon ourselves to be pioneers and ensure that our customers have all these features in their vehicles through a system that also provides them with safety services,” said Yammil Guaida, Director of Global Customer Connectivity Experience and OnStar for Mexico.

Since its arrival in Mexico in 2013, OnStar has assisted occupants of GM vehicles in emergency situations, collaborating with various state and federal authorities, as well as with the Mexican Red Cross.

Among the most significant services are more than 55,000 emergency situations handled, more than 6,000 ambulances dispatched, and more than 1,000 accidents with injuries handled remotely by OnStar’s certified Emergency Medical Assistance advisors.

In addition, as of the end of 2025, the recovery rate for stolen vehicles equipped with OnStar was 76%.

The Remote Engine Immobilization service handles an average of 130 requests per month from OnStar customers, helping them proactively prevent theft of their parked vehicles.

In addition to emergency assistance, the OnStar ecosystem allows users to access the internet via Wi-Fi for up to seven devices.

It also enables remote software update campaigns across the vehicle’s various modules, ensuring the proper functioning of apps available on the infotainment system, such as Spotify, the Google suite, Amazon Prime, HBO Max, and others.

“Reaching 300,000 connected vehicles reflects our customers’ trust and OnStar’s commitment to innovation and excellence in the user experience, not only in terms of safety but also in terms of assistance and connectivity,” said Guaida.

And for those without a vehicle equipped with OnStar, automatic accident response, roadside assistance, emergency services, and real-time location tracking are also available through the OnStar Guardian mobile app; when a user downloads and subscribes to the app’s services, they can share their account with up to seven additional people.

The platform also offers fleet management solutions, providing a platform where the customer can monitor everything happening with their vehicles, while drivers can access all available services.
