Government invests nearly US$57 million in water infrastructure

The Ecatepec government announced that, over the course of the year, it will invest nearly US$57 million in water infrastructure projects, including the construction of a mega water treatment plant and a storage tank, both in La Quinta Zona, ensuring access to drinking water and benefiting 1.2 million residents.

Mayor Azucena Cisneros Coss explained that five major projects stand out: a mega water treatment plant, a large-capacity master tank to supply water by gravity, a liner to eliminate leaks—these three in La Quinta Zona—and the renovation of pipes and repumping systems in the San Andres de la Cañada region.

At a press conference, she stated that a total of US$56.5 million will be allocated for water infrastructure projects, of which US$28.7 million will be contributed by the three levels of government, US$1.1 million by the National Water Commission (CONAGUA), US$16 million by the municipal government, and US$10.6 million by the Ecatepec Water, Sewer, and Sanitation System (SAPASE).

“This means that the higher elevations of Ecatepec, San Andres de la Cañada, the Sierra de Guadalupe, and all the neighborhoods currently suffering because water doesn’t reach them will have a real, fundamental solution—a change that can be seen and felt. Water through the network is a right under this administration, and this investment was made possible thanks to the support of Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum and Governor Delfina Gomez Alvarez,” said Francisco Reyes Vazquez, director of SAPASE.
