PEMEX requesting funds for fracking

Miriam Grunstein, director of Brilliant Energy Consulting, noted that “a well-drilling operation in the United States costs between US$1 million and US$2 million due to its track record and infrastructure; this contrasts with Mexico, where it costs between US$7 million and US$8 million.”
According to the analyst, there have been improvements in drilling and water treatment techniques, but a rigorous process of environmental regulation and industrial safety is also necessary.
However, due to the risks and environmental damage, the technique of hydraulic fracturing has been challenged by organizations such as the Mexican Alliance Against Fracking; this alliance comprises more than 40 civil and social organizations across various states in the country that, since 2013, have sought to ban the use of this technique in order to protect water and the land.
