Oerlikon opens aerospace facility in Queretaro

Marco Antonio Del Prete Tercero, head of the Secretariat of Sustainable Development (SEDESU), presided over the inauguration of a new production cell at the Swiss-based company Oerlikon: a facility that will strengthen advanced manufacturing in the state by producing aerospace-grade honeycomb structures for use in turbines.

The launch of this cell represents a strategic step toward consolidating the aeronautics sector in the state by integrating high-value-added processes into the global supply chain.

For his part, Wolfgang Schmitz, Oerlikon’s Regional President for the Americas, described the inauguration as a significant achievement in the context of the company’s 150th anniversary; he noted that this new cell is the result of collaborative work that enables the transformation of ideas into concrete strategies, while also reinforcing the company’s presence in the aerospace sector from Queretaro.

From an industrial perspective, Javier Hervas, CEO of ITP Aero Mexico, emphasized that the partnership with Oerlikon simplifies the supply chain by incorporating a strategic supplier within the same state.

He added that the new production line will contribute to the sustained growth of the aerospace industry by manufacturing essential components for engines operating globally.
