Sheinbaum to discuss bilateral relations with Panama

President Claudia Sheinbaum welcomed Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino at the Courtyard of Honor in the National Palace, marking the start of his official visit.

Following the brief ceremonial reception, the president will meet with her counterpart, and a joint press conference by both leaders is scheduled to follow.

Earlier, during her morning press briefing, the president announced that they would hold discussions on the neutrality of the Panama Canal, an issue that has already been discussed with other countries and with which Mexico agrees.

“There are several issues we are both interested in addressing—ranging from economic and cultural matters to the issue of the canal’s neutrality, which they are requesting of all countries around the world, and with which we are in full agreement,” the president stated.

After the Council of the European Union (EU) unanimously approved the Interim Trade Agreement (ITA) between Mexico and the EU, Sheinbaum recalled that she recently visited the European Commission, with whom she signed the trade agreement.

She emphasized that this agreement opens the door for Mexico to increase exports to Europe by reducing tariffs.
