Volkswagen Celebrates 60 Years of Dual Training in Mexico
The Volkswagen de México Dual Training Center celebrated 60 years of operating a pioneering program within the automotive industry, during which time it has trained nearly 6,000 specialists, many of whom are now employees of the German automaker.
In an environment where digitization, automation, artificial intelligence, and new technologies are transforming manufacturing, the training of specialized talent remains a key factor in meeting the needs of a constantly evolving industry.
As a result, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has recognized Volkswagen de México’s Dual Training Program as a model of collaboration between industry and educational institutions to strengthen the development of human capital.
The international scope of this model was highlighted at the 2026 edition of the Volkswagen Group’s Best Apprentice Award, which celebrated 25 years of recognizing its top young apprentices worldwide.
On this occasion, 50 graduates from 17 countries and 44 locations were honored in Wolfsburg, Germany, after completing their training in 19 different specializations, covering the fields of industry, electronics, business, information technology, logistics, and automotive technology.
Since its inception, this award has recognized more than 900 talented young professionals from the Volkswagen Group worldwide.
The award recipients stand out as the top graduates from their respective countries and have participated—even during their training—in significant projects within the German consortium, gaining practical experience in highly demanding production environments.
One example of this is Víctor Manuel Triano, a graduate of the Dual Training Center who, as part of the program, combined classroom learning with hands-on experience in manufacturing processes—an experience that led him to be recognized as the best apprentice of his class and opened the door for him to represent his class and his country in Germany alongside other outstanding students from the Volkswagen Group.
Recently, Triano met with Stephan Meier, Executive Vice President of Human Resources and Organization at Volkswagen de México, to present him with this award and share the international experience that is strengthening his professional development within the company.
The experience of the Dual Training Center demonstrates that the development of specialized skills is a key element in keeping pace with the industry’s evolution.
For six decades, this model has helped strengthen the link between technical training and the workplace, expand employment opportunities for its students, and facilitate their entry into the Mexican automotive sector.
