State of Mexico plans to diversify aerospace industry

In light of the development of new investment hubs promoted by the Mexican government, the business sector in the State of Mexico deemed it necessary to update the state’s industrial focus to take advantage of the supply chains that could be created in different regions of the country. In addition to strengthening traditional sectors, it proposed promoting industries with greater technological specialization to expand investment and manufacturing opportunities.

Mauricio Massud, president of the Council of Chambers and Business Associations of the State of Mexico (CONCAEM), noted that the state maintains a significant presence in sectors such as automotive, pharmaceuticals, and metalworking, though he believes the national economic landscape opens up opportunities to develop new industrial sectors.

He explained that one area with potential is the aerospace sector, where the State of Mexico already has a presence and could increase its participation.

“We already have some aerospace industry; we need to kickstart it, because ultimately I believe that business opportunities lie in areas of specialization and much greater technology transfer,” he said.

He noted that part of the federal government’s efforts is also focused on the eastern part of the State of Mexico, where investments in infrastructure and economic development have been announced—a situation that, in his view, could facilitate the integration of new production chains with other regions of the country.
