ASA pushes for development of green aviation fuels

As part of its global commitment and national and international environmental goals, Aeropuertos y Servicios Auxiliares (ASA) reaffirms its position and leadership in the national strategy for the decarbonization of air transport through the development of a “Roadmap” for Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF).

Since 2024, ASA has solidified its institutional commitment to aviation sustainability and, in coordination with various government agencies, is working to position Mexico at the forefront of the use and development of SAF.

ASA’s Director General, Captain Carlos Manuel Merino Campos, who led the technical working groups for the SAF project, stated that “if we can align regulations, support technological innovation, ensure sufficient raw materials, and meet the highest international standards, we will take a decisive step toward a cleaner, more competitive, and more responsible aviation sector.”

The head of ASA acknowledged the cooperation of key stakeholders such as the National Energy Commission, Petroleos Mexicanos, and the National Institute of Ecology and Climate Change, as well as various international organizations, whose participation is crucial to ensuring the technical, economic, and social viability of the SAF project in Mexico.

In 2025, ASA consolidated its position as the leading jet fuel supplier in Mexico, holding a majority share of the aviation fuel market and operating a national network of fuel stations that supply more than 5.4 billion liters annually, thereby strengthening its logistical capacity to integrate sustainable fuels into the production chain.
