There will be 42,000 new Airbus aircraft for Baja California

During the 2026 Farnborough Airshow, Airbus estimated demand for 42,060 new passenger aircraft, reinforcing its potential in the Baja California region as a strategic supplier to the industry’s global supply chains. As a result, based on its analysis, Airbus forecasts a total of 33,920 narrowbody aircraft. Similarly, the company aims to have a global active fleet of 45,550 by 2045, driven by 3.9% annual growth in air traffic, linked to urbanization and economic expansion in emerging markets.

This development represents a favorable opportunity for Baja California, as it would strengthen the state’s position as one of Mexico’s leading aerospace hubs. There has been a surge in demand for specialized components due to the increase in aircraft manufacturing, expanding opportunities for companies located in the Tijuana-Mexicali corridor, particularly among Tier 2 suppliers that serve international manufacturers.

The Tijuana Economic Development Corporation (Tijuana EDC) emphasizes that the proposal presented by Airbus ensures significant manufacturing capacity for the region, supported by advanced manufacturing processes, a well-established supply chain, and a skilled technical workforce dedicated to the aerospace industry.

That is why the agency has decided to continue fostering connections between companies based in the region and the global supply chains of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs). The goal is to strengthen the CaliBaja corridor’s competitiveness in the international aerospace market and attract high-value foreign direct investment.
