Morelos Exports Tons of Avocados to Dubai

In Morelos, producers in Tetela del Volcán have shipped 1.7 metric tons of avocados by air to Dubai, United Arab Emirates. This was made possible by a strategy promoted by the state government aimed at diversifying international markets.

The head of the Secretariat of Economic Development and Labor (SDEyT), José Víctor Sánchez Trujillo, has announced that the support provided to the agri-food sector has made it possible to expand trade opportunities for farmers.

Meanwhile, Axel Morales Balbuena, executive director of Orgullo Morelos, said that the agency facilitated the connection with the buyer and also provided advice and technical assistance to the producers so that the shipment could be completed.

According to state data, avocados from Morelos maintain a steady presence in both international and domestic markets. As reported, approximately 80 metric tons are exported each week to Canada, 20 metric tons to Guatemala, and 5 metric tons to the United Arab Emirates. In addition, on the domestic market, avocados from Morelos are distributed on an ongoing basis to various states, including Cancún, Puebla, Monterrey, and Mexico City.

Margarita Galeana Torres, Secretary of Agricultural and Livestock Development, explained that Morelos recorded a planted area of 6,018 hectares and a harvested area of 5,909 hectares, distributed across 14 municipalities, according to data from the General Directorate of the Agri-Food and Fisheries Information Service (DGSIAP).
