Technology’s Impact on the Labor Market

The labor market in Mexico is evolving toward a model in which people, technology, and business strategy are increasingly interconnected.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has created new job skills. Norma Godínez, Director of Human Resources at Kelly Mexico, noted: “We have to prepare our employees and help them develop their skills so that they can contribute to their personal development and that of the organization,” she said at a press conference where she also presented the latest edition of the study Trends in the Mexican Workplace (TELM).

“AI must become a virtuous cycle rather than a destructive one. I believe that AI marks an era of training and retraining for employees. It should not be viewed as a negative instrument but rather as a tool that supports and facilitates work,” the minister said.

AI, automation, and digitalization have transformed the way people work. 57.29% believe that these same technologies are essential for staying professionally relevant.

According to the OECD, about 19% of workers in Mexico use this technology to perform tasks that can be completed more quickly with the help of AI.

This confirms that technological transformation is already impacting the labor market and reinforces the need to promote continuing education, digital adoption, and the development of new skills, as noted by Norma Godínez.
