Rosarito Desalination Plant Plans Additional Construction Work

The Playas de Rosarito Desalination Plant project in Baja California includes 64.5 km of complementary water infrastructure works that will directly benefit 864,000 residents of the Coastal Zone, according to Mónica Vega Aguirre, general director of the Tijuana State Public Services Commission (CESPT).

The Secretary for Water Management, Sanitation, and Protection, Víctor Daniel Amador Barragán, stated that the plant will have the capacity to produce 2,200 liters per second.

At a morning press conference held by the federal government, Governor Marina del Pilar Avila Olmeda emphasized that this project would provide an additional water source, reduce vulnerability to periods of drought, and strengthen water security in Tijuana, Playas de Rosarito, and Ensenada.

Meanwhile, Finance Secretary Andrés Pulido Saavedra noted that the plant represents an investment of more than US$881 million, funded by federal and state resources, without increasing the rates paid by families.
