CFE to Invest US$198 Million in Quintana Roo

Quintana Roo Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa has announced the Playacar-Chankanaab II undersea alternating current project, led by the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), which involves an investment of US$198 million and is intended to strengthen Cozumel’s electricity supply and expand its capacity, according to information from the state government.

The project will include four substations, two transmission lines, one distribution line, and an underground medium-voltage cable. According to the announcement, this facility will increase transmission capacity and reduce the impact on marine ecosystems.

Lezama Espinoso emphasized that the project will help strengthen Cozumel's services, as well as create the conditions to attract investment and support the community's development.

He also noted that the infrastructure is intended to benefit families, businesses, and the productive activities carried out on the island, where there has been a growing demand for energy services.
