Baja California Will Invest US$725 Million in a Desalination Plant

During President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo’s visit to Baja California, various investments and projects for the state were presented, among which the Playas de Rosarito Desalination Plant stands out, with a total investment of US$725.5 million, according to the state government.

The construction project is part of the priority projects of the National Water Plan and the state’s water agenda, along with the remediation of the Tijuana River and the modernization of Irrigation District 014 Río Colorado.

Federal investment includes strategic infrastructure such as the 11.4-kilometer Tijuana Elevated Viaduct, the modernization of the Port of Ensenada for the fishing industry, six rural roads, maintenance of the highway network, and modernization work at San Felipe Airport.

In the energy sector, there is the González Ortega Combined Cycle Power Plant in Mexicali, with an investment of US$646 million and a capacity of 641 MW, as well as 5,134 photovoltaic systems installed through the Techos Solares program, with a budget of US$135 million.

In the area of health, the goal is to strengthen services and infrastructure in Tijuana, Ensenada, San Quintín, San Felipe, Playas de Rosarito, and Mexicali, while in education, the Rosario Castellanos National University in Tijuana is expected to have 2,150 students enrolled, in addition to new facilities and expansions of its high school programs.

The agenda promises a target of 80,880 homes, loan restructuring for 238,317 families, and initiatives under the Justice Plan for agricultural workers in San Quintín and the Yuman communities. This includes pensions, scholarships, programs such as Jóvenes Construyendo el Futuro and La Escuela es Nuestra, as well as support for productive activities.
