CCE calls the CFE to manage its power supply in Chihuahua

The Chihuahua Business Coordinating Council (CCE) has called on the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) to review and balance the distribution circuits in the state capital, in light of the increase in power outages that have affected not only the operation of water wells but also companies in the manufacturing sector.

In light of the power outages that have affected well operations, as noted by the Municipal Water and Sanitation Board (JMAS), Leopoldo Mares Delgado, president of the Chihuahua Chamber of Commerce (CCE), stated that power supply failures have become a concern for the business sector.

The business leader explained that, in this context, the agency found that not all companies were experiencing the same consequences; some sectors and areas of the capital have been more fortunate, enjoying greater stability in their power lines.

In an interview with “El Heraldo de Chihuahua,” the official explained that the data provided by the JMAS regarding the increase in power outages has helped gauge the magnitude of this problem, as the outages have directly affected the operation of the wells and the supply of drinking water.

The maquiladora industry has reported being affected by the supply disruptions; however, it has clarified that this problem does not occur uniformly throughout the city.

The president of the business organization noted that the situation is concentrated in specific areas of Chihuahua City, where the electrical infrastructure is struggling to keep up with the pressure of electricity demand—areas where companies operate with more stable power grids. However, despite the disruptions caused by the power outages to production operations, Mares Delgado has noted that this situation does not act as a barrier to attracting new investment.

However, the official warned that recurring outages could become a concern for established companies whose operations depend on a continuous power supply for their production processes.

“This is a call to the CFE to balance its circuits so that there are as few of these power outages as possible—the very outages that the industry and the Municipal Water Board have been complaining about, as evidenced by the figures,” he noted.
