Cemex will venture for the first time in the development of a solar farm with a project in the state of Zacatecas. The facility will require a US$ 320 million investment and will have an output capacity of 378 MW.

This initiative was revealed by Beatriz Padilla, business development advisor of Cemex Energia, during the second energy meeting organized by the Nuevo Leon Energy Cluster in the city of Monterrey, local media reported (subscription required).

The goal is to start operations by mid-2019, but that will depend on obtaining all the necessary financing on time. The executive said that the operation scheme has not yet been determined, but the intention is to sell the power to private clients.

The official stressed that Zacatecas was chosen because of the great solar resources it has and the advantages it offers, in addition to the conditions that greatly help in the use of energy. “The Zacatecas weather brings the best performance out of the panels,” he added.

Among the energy projects that Cemex currently operates in the country is a thermoelectric plant in San Luis Potosi that generates 230 MW, a wind farm in Oaxaca of 250 MW and another in Nuevo Leon of 422 MW.
