China and Michoacán Strengthen Cooperation.

Michoacán and China have decided to promote an agenda for economic, tourism, and cultural cooperation. This agenda was outlined during the visit to the state by Chen Daojiang, China’s ambassador to Mexico.

During the meeting held by the Pátzcuaro Tourism Advisory Council, State Governor Alfredo Ramirez Bedolla reported that the visit concluded with a tour of the Port of Lázaro Cárdenas, where he typically oversees the operational logistics of the container terminals operated by Hutchison Ports—the main investor and developer of port operations—as well as APM Terminals, Michoacán’s commercial port platform.

The governor also highlighted the president's visit to the infrastructure projects that will increase the port's operational capacity from 4 million to 6.5 million TEUs.

On the other hand, Ramirez Bedolla has stated that he is seeking to establish a sister-city relationship with the Chinese province of Shandong, in response to the growing demand from travelers from Asia who are seeking experiences in the culinary, artistic, and historical spheres.

“Michoacán is on the right track, and during my administration I hope we can forge this strong partnership with Shandong to promote tourism, just as we once promoted trade with China,” the governor said.

In addition, Ambassador Chen Daojiang has highlighted the state’s attractions, which include the Historic Center of Morelia, its rich culinary tradition, and the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve—all of which help attract tourists from China.
