CICE Group Adds Two Liebherr Cranes in Veracruz

The CICE Group has commissioned two Liebherr P180 L-S multipurpose rail-mounted cranes (GPR) at its Semi-Specialized Container and Project Cargo Terminal, located in Bahía Norte at the Port of Veracruz, thereby expanding the resources available for handling containerized cargo and project cargo.

The cranes have moved from the installation and testing phase to commercial operation, serving two maritime services. The first crane handled the operations for CMA CGM’s Altamira Express service during the arrival of the vessel ELBBRIDGE, while the second crane was put into service with operations for ZIM Integrated Shipping Services’ ZM Gulf Toucan service during the port call of the SPYROS V.

The addition of GPRs provides the terminal with equipment capable of handling different types of cargo. Each crane has a safe load capacity of approximately 65 metric tons, while in Twin Lift mode, they can reach up to 80 metric tons and handle two containers at once. Similarly, the Tandem configuration allows them to work in coordination when necessary to achieve greater lifting capacities, with loads ranging from 80 to 100 metric tons.

Similarly, the equipment has a reach of up to 20 rows of containers, expanding the terminal’s ability to serve ships and increasing its capacity for maritime operations.

Furthermore, the cranes utilize systems designed for operational and energy management; the units are equipped with ROS stations for remote operation and Active Front End technology, which recovers energy during certain operating phases and feeds it back into the power grid.

The equipment had arrived at the Port of Veracruz in January aboard the heavy-lift cargo ship UHL FELICITY, and was subsequently assembled and tested before being put into commercial operation at the terminal
