Coahuila Advance Plans to Expand International Bridge 2

The expansion of International Bridge 2, also known as the Coahuila 2000 International Bridge, is moving forward with the signing of a contract to develop the project’s design and construction plans. The initiative aims to strengthen trade between Mexico and the United States and improve border connectivity.

The agreement was signed by Coahuila Governor Manolo Jiménez Salinas and Eagle Pass, Texas, Mayor Aaron Valdez as part of a binational effort to upgrade the infrastructure connecting both communities and facilitate cross-border trade.

International Bridge 2 currently handles approximately 35,000 freight truck crossings per month, according to information provided by the state government. This volume underscores the bridge’s importance to logistics and commercial operations in the border region.

The expansion aims to support economic growth in Coahuila and Texas by improving connectivity and strengthening supply chains that depend on cross-border trade.

The contract signing marks a step forward in the development of the technical studies and documentation needed to define the project’s specifications and establish the next stages of planning and execution.

During the event, Jiménez Salinas highlighted the importance of implementing the project through a coordinated, organized, and long-term approach. “We support development and growth, but we also believe in doing things in an orderly manner and in stages,” he said.

For his part, Eagle Pass Mayor Aaron Valdez emphasized the importance of the agreement in modernizing border infrastructure, facilitating trade, and creating economic opportunities for both states.

He also stressed the need to promote responsible investments that protect the public assets of both communities while addressing the region’s development needs.

Coordination between Mexican and U.S. authorities will be essential to ensuring the project moves forward, particularly in defining its technical specifications and completing the required procedures.

With this initiative, Coahuila and Eagle Pass are advancing plans to expand the bridge’s capacity to meet the region’s connectivity needs and strengthen the infrastructure that facilitates trade between the two countries.
